Let`s Play Darts 6

The Darts at the Lakeside World Championships

Tuesday 10 January

The second round starts today and we now have a better idea of what sort of form the players are in as well as some stats from their first round games to work on.

Game 1 – 5.15 pm

Paul Jennings

“Jenno” was a convincing 3:1 winner over Garry Thompson in the first round and he looked at home on the Lakeside stage. His vital statistics were:

3 Dart Av – 83.95  Ton+ 20  180`s 2 Average number of darts thrown to win a leg -17.22

V

Steve Douglas

“The Game” won his first round game easily 3:0 against a disappointing Gary Robson.

3 Dart Av – 83.75  Ton+ 12  180`s 2 Average number of darts thrown to win a leg -17.88

We Say

Can the stats help us? Hmm, it is neck and neck. We will go for “Jenno”; he looked like he had more in the tank and Steve may have peaked against Robbo.

Odds

Jennings 4/6  Douglas 6/4

Score and Averages

Jennings 4 Douglas 2

Robbie Green

"Kong"

“Kong” beat the “Dazzler “ 3:1 in a first round game of two halves, great scoring, poor finishing! Robbie’s power scoring was fantastic, he hit a 9 dart average of 108 (Premier League standard) but his doubles let him down!

3 Dart Av 87.42 Ton + 9 180`s 8 Average number of darts thrown to win a leg – 16.3

V

Wesley Harms

“Sparky” shocked crowd favourite Martin Phillips in the first round and is looking to cause another upset tonight.

3 Dart Av 82.33 Ton + 10 180`s 2 Average number of darts thrown to win a leg – 17.8

We Say

“Sparky” won’t be able to keep up with Kong’s power scoring if Robbie can repeat his first round power scoring “trick” again tonight. So Robbie will get to the double first but can he finish? We say Kong won’t “monkey” around this time and will go through!

Odds

Green 1/2 Harms 15/8

Result

Robbie Green 1-4 Wesley Harms

Game 3– 7.45 pm

Martin Adams

“Wolfie” wasn’t pushed as hard as we expected from Scott Mitchell and even though he won fairly comfortably he didn’t look in top form. However, Adams knows how to pace himself and still ended up with a 90 average. This demonstrates the high standard he has set as we are being critical of that! We also know he has more to come yet.

3 Dart Av 90.13 Ton + 13 180`s 2 Average number of darts thrown to win a leg – 16.22

Gary Stone

“Stoney” rocked into the second round and surprised a number of people on the way (including us) with his performance in round 1. He looked calm and confident on the Lakeside stage and now has his reward with a match against the World Champion.

3 Dart Av 88.69 Ton + 10 180`s 4 Average number of darts thrown to win a leg – 17.22

We Say

Wolfie is a massive favourite for this one but Gary is more than capable of banging in some 15 dart legs and can win a set or two! You can get 11/10 on “Stoney” in the handicap with a 2 ½ set start!

Odds

Adams 1/5 Stone 5/1

Result

Martin Adams 4-0 Gary Stone

Game 4– 9.00 pm

Tony O’Shea

“The Silverback” cruised through his first round game against Steve West. He suggested on BBC it was due to a more relaxed attitude and interacting more with the Lakeside crowd that helped him. Good, Tony has underachieved at The Lakeside and it is great to see him play to the standard he is capable of!

3 Dart Av 88.81 Ton + 9 180`s 2 Average number of darts thrown to win a leg – 16.33

V

Ross Montgomery

“The Boss” will of course have a lot to say about whether O`Shea gets a decent run at the Lakeside this year. Ross was “Fab” in the first round against Roosenbrand and this tie has all the ingredients to be a belter!

3 Dart Av 87.98 Ton + 6 180`s 5 Average number of darts thrown to win a leg – 16.66

We Say

How do you split these two? The bookies have and arguably the value is with “The Boss”. We will sit back, relax and watch what should be a thriller with a dabble on the match finishing 4:3 at 9/4!

Odds

O’Shea 8/13 Montgomery 11/8

Result

Tony O’Shea 4-1 Ross Montgomery

90.48 ave  vs 87.63 ave
