News From the BDO AGM - Olly Croft Removed from BDO Board!
The BDO AGM was today – and as predicted in my recent articles where I published a challenge to the BDO management and the sadly backwards looking response from Olly Croft OBE, the BDO Board has been completely re-shaped. (Sources include Lancashire County who tweeted during the board meeting, and now confirmed by some well trusted BDO members who were at the AGM). Update: official BDO website confirms the changes.

Olly Croft voted off the board of the BDO, ending his long control of the darts organisation.
New BDO board elected;
- Barry Gilbey (new Chairman)
- Sue Getty
- Martin Adams
- Derek Weston
- Wayne Williams
- Vic Sexton also stays on.
We all have to remember the enormous amount of time and effort that Mr Croft put into British and world darts, but unfortunately he had allowed the BDO to become a bit of a dinosaur, and failed to move with the times, something every company and organisation has to do to stay healthy. It is just a shame that he failed too listen – and had to be pushed out of the organisation he helped to forge. He unfortunately had become to believe he is darts, and that’s not the case.
One question being asked is; Will this mean Martin Adams will retire from darts (at a serious level), as being a director and player may be a conflict of interest; imagine him helping to set qualification requirements, they would be under some scrutiny! His role at the IPDA may also be more of a conflict, so it will be interesting to see what happens.
Also as most of the BDO HQ is run from Olly Croft’s Tile shop, manned by his family n friends, it will be interesting to see how the new board ‘settle in’ – will the hand over of the keys to the organisation be a smooth one? I hope so but doubt it.
I wish the new board the best of luck – and really hope they can bring the organisation into the 21st century, and bring new blood/money into the sport at all levels.
Other rumours doing the rounds;
- It has been alleged that BICC sponsorship money is missing and unaccounted for (this has been repeated by several people on darts forums) – UPDATE: The money isn’t “missing” according to the outgoing board – they promised to present validated accounts at the November meeting
- Olly Croft has threatened to cancel Lakeside and the Masters (which he cannot do?).
- Olly was the only outgoing director who was less than gracious – and were heard muttering that he gave the BDO “6 months” without him at the helm

Just wow, its sad Croft had to be pushed, but im happy the BDO can finaly move forward positivly.
