The England Darts Organisation event got under way last night in a holiday camp in Selsey. The event takes place at the Bunn Leisure complex right on the sea front of this Sussex holiday resort.
The tournament is being held in a marquee at the back of the modern complex above. I arrived during the “early bird” tournament last night but a lot of the big names of the BDO had beaten me there and were competing for the £1000 prize. The Count was in action in the quarter finals against a well supported Mark Blandford. Mark kept his fans happy by disposing of Hankey 5:2.
I also watched the Dazzler get knocked out by Sami Sannsii and Dean Winstanley cruise past Mark Blandford in the semi finals. Some high quality darts being played in every match!
The final was of the same standard as the earlier rounds with Alan “Chuck” Norris prevailing 6:5 against the solid Winstasnley.
A high class start to the weekend!
The top ladies players didn’t appear to have the same enthusiasm for the first tournament of the weekend. The Golden Girl preferring a glass of pink wine to competing and I spotted Deta Hedman vanish into the women only practice room. The difference in tournament preparation always fascinates me!
However Lisa Ashton from Lancashire was taking the competition seriously and thumped Lorraine Farlam 3:0 in the final.
