Double delight for Martin Adams
Martin wins two sports awards - a big thumbs up from his home town
After his most successful ever year on the oche, Martin Adams has been given a double award by his local newspaper, the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, whose readers have voted him as both Sports Personality of the Year and Sportsman of the Year .
A huge vote by 8,500 readers put Martin in pole position following a year that included his third consecutive Winmau World Masters titles (2008, 2009 and 2010) and his recently achieved third BDO Lakeside World Professional title (2007, 2010 and 2011).
“To say I am over-the-moon would be an understatement” says Martin. “It’s been a great year full of honours on the oche, but there is something a bit special about being acknowledged by your local newspaper and its readers. “They have given me (and BDO darts) loads of support over the years, but this is real icing on the cake and I am delighted with the two awards – though the mantelpiece is getting a little bit too full at the moment!”
Next month, Martin will be defending his Dutch Open title in Vekdhoven, The Netherlands (February 3rd to 6th)
