Lakeside Semi Finals

Lakeside Semi Finals

Martin Admans on the lakeside stage 2011

Can Martin Adams make another final? Tune in a 2.30pm BBC1 to see!

It’s the semi finals today – the last four battling it out for a chance to be the BDO Lakeside World Champion.

All four players should be offered a PDC ProTour card, but it is VERY doubtful that they will all take one (and thus leave the BDO due to the politics of the sport).  One thing is for sure, Martin Adams will be refusing, and will still be THE Ambassador for the BDO in the coming year.  The semi-finalists have also traditionally been offered a place at the Grand Slam of Darts, but I believe that they will not receive that invite if they turn down the Tour card; thus it could be that the BDO no longer are represented at the GSoD in Wolverhampton, a sad state if true.

Men’s Semi-Finals (Best of 11 Sets)

Shown on BBC1 from 2.30pm – 4.30pm, then 4.30pm onwards on BBC2.

  • Martin Adams: (Eng) 6-4 Martin Phillips (Wales)
  • Jan Dekker (Neth) 2-6 Dean Winstanley (Eng)

I think the standard of this year’s Lakeside has been, frankly, shocking (in a bad way), but wouldn’t it defeat the purpose of the Grand Slam not to have any BDO players? I certainly think so.

Besides, what about last year’s Lakeside last four, and Waites, who qualifies as last year’s champion?

I agree – the Grand slam needs to be cross code, else it won’t have it’s unique feel.
